JAKARTA - BUMN Minister, Erick Thohir, said that big businessmen, members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), are committed to buying the COVID-19 vaccine to protect their employees.

"I got a positive response from Kadin. There is the Lippo group, the Astra group, the Sinarmas group, the Medco group. They possibly buy their vaccines for the needs of their employees," he said in a video conference with reporters on Wednesday, September 2nd.

Regarding the distribution of vaccines by PT Bio Farma (Persero), Erick said that he's still coordinating with the TNI and Polri to find the best scheme.

Along with the development of vaccines, Erick said, the government, in this case, the Committee for Handling COVID-19 and PEN, would launch a new program.

"We hope that this health program will be important. But, we'll review additional programs which we will discuss in one or two days," he said.

Previously, the government would involve BPJS Kesehatan in distributing COVID-19 vaccine aid. Especially in the provision of data on potential recipients. The government will give this vaccine aid to people in dire need.

"Through BPJS health data, the government provides vaccine aid to 93 million people in dire need," he said.

Erick explained that the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine will use two schemes. Namely, paid and free vaccination from the government.

Furthermore, Erick emphasized that the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine with a paid scheme was chosen by the government to reduce the burden on the state budget. This paid vaccine is intended for people who can afford it.

"We are also involved in an independent program. We know that many parties can afford to buy. We do not want this whole burden to be borne by the government," he said.
