Samarinda Police Investigate Cause Of KM Pantokrator Fire

SAMARINDA - The head of the Samarinda Police, East Kalimantan, Kombes Ary Fadli, said that his party was still investigating the cause of the Pantokrator Motor Ship (KM) fire incident.

"While the investigation is still in progress. The initial information we got came from the VIP passenger room. We don't know the origin of the fire and the cause because it is still in the process of being investigated," explained Ary in Samarinda, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 26.

He explained that police investigators will board the ship to process the crime scene after the cooling and cleaning stages. The ship fire at Samarinda Harbor, Jalan Yos Sudarso, did not result in any casualties.

"Until now there have been no casualties or injuries because as soon as the fire broke out, the passengers and others were immediately evacuated by officers," he said.

According to witness statements, thick smoke appeared to be emerging from inside the ship, then the public immediately reported to the Port Area Police Office.

Furthermore, the port area officer reported to the SPKT Polresta Samarinda to ask for help contacting the fire department.

Not long after, firefighters and volunteers came so that the fire could be contained and not spread to the deck of another ship.
