Proven Corruption, Former KONI Bengkulu Chairman Sentenced To 11 Years In Prison

BENGKULU - The Corruption Court (Tipikor) of the Bengkulu District Court sentenced the former chairman of the Bengkulu Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Mufran Imron, to 11 years in prison with a fine of Rp. 750 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

Mufran Imron was found guilty of corruption in the 2020 Bengkulu Province KONI Grant Fund corruption case of Rp. 15 billion. However, of the total funds of more than Rp11 billion, it cannot be accounted for based on the results of an audit by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).

The funds were donated to KONI Bengkulu Province to dispatch athletes to the National Sports Week (PON) in Papua 2020.

At the trial, Mufran was asked to compensate the state for Rp11 billion in losses that previously could not be accounted for.

However, if the defendant is unable to compensate the state's loss, it will be replaced with 6 years in prison.

In addition to the defendant Mufran, the former treasurer of KONI Bengkulu Province, Hirwan Fuadi, was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison and a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

Defendant Hirwan was not asked to compensate the state for Rp11 billion in losses because he was judged to have only carried out the instructions of the Bengkulu Province KONI Chairman Mufran Imron at the time.

The Public Prosecutor (JPU), Dewi Kemala Sari said that the verdict was in accordance with the wishes of the Public Prosecutor because the defendant Mufran Imron was charged with Article 2 of Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crimes.

"Indeed, from the public prosecutor's office yesterday, we demanded 12 years, but earlier the panel of judges decided 11 years. We think that is enough," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 26.

Mufran Imron's lawyer, Nediyanto Ramadhan, said that currently his party has accepted all the judge's decisions, regarding the appeal, his party is still thinking about it first.

"Earlier, we saw a slightly different legal study. In a day or two, we will determine whether to appeal or not. We will also wait to see what Mufran said," he said.
