Residents Clash In Central Maluku, 2 Dead And Three Injured

JAKARTA - Clashes between two groups of residents occurred on the border of Kariuw Village and Ori Village, Haruku Island District, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku. As a result of the clashes, two people died and three others were injured.

"The data we received reports from the same that two victims died and three were injured," said Head of Public Relations Kombes Muhammad Roem Ohoirat to VOI, Wednesday, January 26.

One of the three people who were injured was a member of the National Police. The police officer is said to have suffered injuries to the jaw.

Based on information circulating, the member of the Indonesian National Police was injured when he was shot while trying to break up the clashes that occurred on Wednesday, January 26 in the early hours of the morning. However, Roem, who confirmed this matter, could not confirm it.

"We don't know if he was shot or not, but what is clear is that he had a jaw wound," he said.

Police officers who were injured by gunfire have now been taken to a hospital in the Ambon area. The victim will receive intensive care.

"Meanwhile (Police members, ed) were evacuated to Ambon for intensive treatment," said Roem.
