Four Defendants Of Tangerang Class I Prison Fire Have No Objection To The Prosecutor's Indictment

TANGERANG - The Tangerang City District Court (PN) held the first trial of the Tangerang Class IA prison fire case that killed 49 people on September 8, 2021.

Four defendants, Suparto, Rusmanto, Yoga Wido Nugroho, and Panahatan Butar Butar were presented to hear the indictment from the Public Prosecutor (JPU). The defendants are Tangerang Class I prison officers.

The indictment was read out by the Public Prosecutor of the Tangerang City Attorney General, Adib Fachri Dili at the Tangerang District Court (PN), Tangerang City. Suparto, Rusmanto, and Yoda were charged with Article 359 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence causing someone to die.

Meanwhile, Panahatan was charged with Article 188 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence or an error that caused a fire.

"Do you object to what the prosecutor reads?" Chief Judge Aji Suryo asked the defendants during a trial, Tuesday, January 25. The four of them in unison answered, "no".

Previously, it was reported that the trial of the Tangerang Class IA prison fire case which killed 49 inmates was postponed because the father-in-law of the chairman of the panel of judges died.
