JAKARTA - Head of the National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Boy Rafli Amar explained the development of the national terror network in Indonesia. There are still many Islamic boarding schools affiliated with global network terrorism groups.

"Radical groups are still being monitored, as extensions of global terrorists," said Boy at a working meeting with Commission III of the DPR RI at the Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, January 25, as reported by Antara.

Boy explained that one of these networks is Jamaah Islamiyah (JI), which is affiliated with the Al-Qaeda network. Then Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) and Jamaah Ansharut Khilafah (JAK) are linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

"Including the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) group based in Poso, currently there are three remaining people who are being chased by the officers," said Boy.

BNPT also assembled several Islamic boarding schools suspected of being affiliated with terrorism groups, including 11 Ponpes affiliated with JAK, 68 Ponpes affiliated with JI and 119 Ponpes affiliated with JAD and ISIS sympathizers.

Boy revealed that the total number of terrorism prisoners and terrorism convicts during 2005-2021 was 1,031 people, with details of 575 people in detention and 456 in correctional institutions.

A total of five regions with the largest number of terrorism detainees were West Java with 471 people, Central Java with 205 people, DKI Jakarta with 163 people, Lampung with 37 people and East Java with 36 people.

Boy said there were five main tasks of BNPT based on Law Number 5 of 2018 namely formulating, coordinating and implementing national policies, strategies and programs in the field of national preparedness, counter-radicalization and deradicalization.

Coordinate between law enforcers in countering terrorism. Coordinate victim recovery. Formulate, coordinate and implement national policies, strategies and programs to counter terrorism in the field of international cooperation.

BNPT is also a center for crisis analysis and control, which functions as a facility for the president to set policies and steps to deal with crises, including the mobilization of resources in dealing with terrorism.
