Tornado Hits Residents' Settlements In Leles Garut, No Casualties

GARUT - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Garut Regency, West Java said, a tornado that hit residential homes in Leles District caused a number of house damage. There were no casualties in this disaster.

"There were no victims," said the head of the Garut Regency BPBD, Satria Budi in Garut, as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 25.

BPBD Garut received information about a tornado that hit residential houses in a number of villages, Leles Village/Sub-district, Monday.

The disaster was reported to have only damaged a number of residents' houses, such as damage to the roof and the roof tiles were removed.

The condition of damaged houses has now been repaired. Residents have also returned to their respective homes. "Last night it was occupied again and today we want to encourage community service," he said.

Regarding the assistance for repairing houses damaged by the tornado, he said, it is not yet under discussion, and the authority lies with the Garut Housing and Settlement Service.

BPBD Garut, he said, is currently collecting data on affected residents, and preparing logistical assistance for community service activities.

"The BPBD's steps are now to collect data on survivors and support logistics for the village government to support community service work," he said.

A report from the Garut BPBD noted that 31 houses were damaged by the tornado, with varying degrees of damage ranging from light to severe, and material losses estimated at IDR 290 million.

After the disaster occurred, the ranks of the Leles District Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimcam) elements and the Garut BPBD immediately carried out a review and data collection to ascertain what was affected by the disaster, said Satria Budi.
