DPR Commission II: Discussion On 2024 Election Stages Held In March

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Junimart Girsang, said that the discussion on the stages of holding the 2024 General Election (Election) will be carried out in March 2022.

Precisely after the newly elected Commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu).

"We hope that the election stages of the KPU commissioner, the newly elected Bawaslu will continue to present their presentation in March 2022 after the DPR RI recess," Junimart told reporters, Tuesday, January 25.

For this reason, Junimart hopes that in the discussion of the upcoming election stages, taking into account the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact as well as the economic recovery period, the election campaign period can be shortened to 50 to 75 days. "For the election campaign period, the KPU submits a proposal for 120 days. The input is shortened again to 50 to 75 days, considering the pandemic and its impact, the economic recovery period and the anticipated polarization of friction between supporters," he said.

Previously, at a working meeting (Raker) which took place Monday, January 24, it was agreed that the Presidential Election (Pilpres) and Legislative Elections (Pileg) would be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

This has been agreed by Commission II of the DPR together with the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian, the General Elections Commission (KPU) Ilham Saputra, the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) Abhan and the Honorary Council for Election Organizers (DKPP) Muhammad. "To hold simultaneous election voting, to elect the President and Vice President, members of the DPR RI, Provincial DPRD, Regency / City DPRD, and members of the DPD RI will be held on Wednesday 14 February 2024," explained Junimart. National elections in regional head elections (Pilkada) starting from the Governor and Deputy Governor, Regent and Deputy Regent, Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. "Furthermore, the simultaneous regional elections will be held on November 27, 2024," he explained.
