JAKARTA - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution handed over additional food for groups of pregnant women and children under five to minimize stunting in this area.

"I appreciate and at the same time thank the BUMN Foundation for providing additional food for children in Medan City," said Bobby in Medan, North Sumatra, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 24.

This was conveyed by Bobby Nasution after handing over additional food assistance for pregnant women and toddlers at the GBI Sumatera Resort Building, Medan Tuntungan.

Prevention of stunting in each region, he said, is the task of all parties, both local governments and stakeholders, including SOEs.

The latest data from the Medan City Government states that the stunting rate in children has decreased by about 20 percent in the past year from 491 children in 2020 to 393 children in 2020 in Medan City.

"BUMN in Medan City has contributed, and today the contribution is felt directly by the community. Therefore, we thank BUMN," said Bobby.

Bobby Nasution also reminded that what he gave was not a substitute meal, meaning that every parent is still obliged to prepare staple food for their children.

"By fulfilling our children's nutrition, I hope that the children in Medan will be healthier. In the future, they can become useful and lead children in Medan City," he said.

The Executive Director of the BUMN Foundation, Syafuan, said that this additional food was distributed to 6,000 pregnant women and toddlers spread across four sub-districts, namely Medan Tuntungan, Medan Selayang, Medan Baru, and Medan Helvetia.

The additional food provided in the form of green beans, eggs, children's milk, pregnant women's milk, and multivitamins and cloth masks for health protocols.

"We hope this assistance can help and support local governments in fulfilling children's nutrition to prevent stunting," he said.
