JAKARTA - Senior Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) politician Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) is pushing for a referendum as an effort to involve the community regarding the government's plan to move the capital city to East Kalimantan (Kaltim).

This referendum is important to find out how far the people agree on the plan. Social media activist Eko Kuntadhi was surprised by the HNW proposal. According to him, before being enacted, the IKN Bill had gone through various processes in the parliament.

This means that the representation of the people's voice is channeled through the votes of the members of the council. Although, said Eko, PKS was the only faction that rejected the IKN bill being enacted.

"Hidayat Nur Wahid was screaming for a referendum, you know, what should a referendum be on in the DPR? The DPR discusses this law, the DPR is the people's representative institution. And the PKS faction is the one chosen by the people,"

"If all the factions in the DPR in discussing the law have agreed on a new capital city and only PKS is against you, you don't have to look for reasons to mess up using the shouts of a referendum, the whole democratic process is already underway in the DPR. ," said Eko through the CokroTV Youtube channel, which was reported on Friday, January 21.

Eko understands that PKS's actions have always been like that. Let alone the IKN Bill, the Sexual Violence Draft Law (RUU TPKS), was strongly rejected by PKS. In fact, the presence of this bill is important to protect women from crime or sexual predators.

"So understand that this is indeed a PKS trait," said Eko.

F-PKS is the only faction that refuses to ratify the draft state capital law (RUU IKN) into law. One of the reasons that PKS put forward was about the condition of the nation which was in crisis due to being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to PKS, this transfer will burden the state's finances.

The proposal of HNW, who is now the Deputy Chair of the MPR, departed from the statement of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the state session some time ago. HNW claims that Jokowi once asked for permission to move the capital city in 2019. As a result, it is natural for a referendum proposal to find out what the people really want.

HNW then quoted the results of a poll conducted by one of the Democrat politicians, Jansen Sitindaon. In a poll conducted via Jansen's personal Twitter account, the majority of netizens rejected the transfer. The poll was conducted last Tuesday, January 18 for 3 hours with 5,058 respondents. As a result, 90 percent of the number refused the transfer.
