DKI Plans To Add 190 Kilometers Of Bike Paths In Anies' Last Year In Office

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that his party would add to the construction of a 109-kilometer bicycle lane in 2022. It is known that this year will be the last year for DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in office.

Syafrin explained that the effort to add bicycle lanes was carried out because it had been stated in the DKI Regional Medium-Term Program Plan (RPJMD) for 2017-2022.

"This year, around 190 kilometers of bicycle lanes will be built. So, by the end of this year we can realize it as stated in the RPJMD," said Syafrin when met at the DKI DPRD Building, Thursday, January 20.

In general, continued Syafrin, the DKI Dishub had four focuses on transportation development in the last year of Anies' tenure as DKI Governor.

First, the DKI Dishub will fulfill the RPJMD target related to the transportation duties and functions of the Transportation Agency. Second, the fulfillment of regional strategic activities (KSD).

"We will focus on handling regional strategic activities, so that they are delivered properly," said Syafrin.

The three Dishub will carry out priority service activities. Fourth, the DKI Transportation Agency accommodates the aspirations of the community regarding transportation. "Those are our four focuses this year," he added.

For information, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan once said that his party had built a bicycle lane for 97.77 kilometers during his tenure.

"As one of the efforts to realize a cycling-friendly Jakarta, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has built 97.77 km of bicycle lanes," Anies said as quoted from the aniesbaswedan Instagram account.

Anies said that the bicycle lanes are currently being built on roads connected to public transportation, which are affected by odd-even. Later, bicycle lanes will also be built in tourist areas and other locations.

"The design of a bicycle lane is being built in the Semanggi Park area. The process of a permanent bicycle lane on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin is in the final stage," he said.

The former Minister of Education and Culture admitted that the goal of building bicycle lanes on a massive scale is to change the paradigm of car-oriented transportation policy to transit-oriented.

Furthermore, Anies wants the DKI Provincial Government to build 500 kilometers of bicycle lanes until 2030, and connect Jakarta with surrounding cities.

Previously, the DKI Provincial Government had budgeted for the construction of a bicycle lane of up to 170 kilometers throughout 2021. Unfortunately, the budget was subject to refocusing due to the allocation for handling COVID-19.
