Polda Asks Kiai Jombang's Son Suspect Of Santri Abuse To Surrender, Bika Won't Be Arrested

SURABAYA - The East Java High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) has given the East Java Police 14 days to hand over the suspect in the sexual abuse of students in Jombang Regency. He is MSAT, the son of a well-known kiai at one of the Islamic boarding schools in Jombang.

"The East Java Prosecutor's Office has stated that the case file for this case is complete, and we have been given 14 days to complete the second phase of the delegation (from the Regional Police to the East Java Prosecutor's Office)," said Head of Public Relations of the East Java Police, Kombes Gatot Repli Handoko, in Surabaya, Thursday, January 20.

Gatot hopes that the MSAT suspect immediately surrenders himself to the East Java Regional Police before 14 days, the time limit that has been determined by the East Java Prosecutor's Office. If not, continued Gatot, his party will forcibly pick up the MSAT suspect at his residence.

Gatot said that the East Java Police investigators had issued a wanted list (DPO) or fugitive for the MSAT suspect, because they were never cooperative in responding to the summons of the East Java Police Direskrimum investigation team.

According to Gatot, the East Java Police are still making persuasive efforts, but the suspect has not been cooperative. This persuasive step was taken because the suspect in the alleged sexual harassment case was carried out by the son of an Islamic boarding school kiai in Jombang, and had been reported by the victim since 2019.

In the second stage of delegation, said Gatot, the team of investigators from the Ditreskrimum of the East Java Police will hand over the suspect, and the results of the examination to the team of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the East Java Prosecutor's Office.

"We have known exactly where MSAT is, and the person concerned is still around East Java. We will coordinate with all parties, including scholars, so that MSAT suspects comply with the applicable legal process," he said.
