JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia submitted one more alternative date for the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) to the Indonesian House of Representatives, namely on February 14, 2024.
RI KPU member Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi was quoted by Antara as saying that the alternative was stated in a letter requesting a consultation meeting with the DPR RI which was sent to the leadership of the DPR RI on Wednesday (19/1).
"This proposal is not new at all because in previous consignment meetings, the KPU had proposed 3 alternatives, namely February 14, February 21, and March 6, 2024," said Pramono, Thursday, January 20.
He explained that the KPU RI on Wednesday, January 19, had sent back a letter to the leadership of the DPR RI containing a request for a consultation meeting to discuss the Draft KPU Regulation on the Stages, Programs and Schedule of the 2024 Election.
"We sent the letter 'online' last night and today (Thursday) we have submitted a physical copy directly to the DPR RI Secretariat," said Pramono.
In addition, he continued, the KPU heard statements from several leaders of Commission II DPR RI in the media that a consultation meeting would be held next week.
"Of course the KPU appreciates this because in the letter above, the KPU does hope that the discussion on the stages of the election can be carried out during the trial period this time," he said.
The KPU hopes that the stages of the election will be decided soon so that the election organizers have the certainty to carry out the preparatory steps.
"The preparation steps include budget planning, strengthening information technology infrastructure, preparing regulations (KPU regulations), socializing the registration stages, and verifying political parties," concluded Pramono.
