West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil Asks For IKN Law Enactment Not To Forget Jakarta's Fate

BANDUNG - West Java Governor M Ridwan Kamil asked the enactment of the new State Capital Law (UU IKN) not to cause further polemics, including that the transfer of IKN to East Kalimantan should not forget the fate of Jakarta.

"The design of the capital city is subjective, so today the president likes the existing design. We appreciate it because it is a historic event," Ridwan Kamil said in a statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 19.

Ridwan Kamil said that the IKN selection matter is entirely related to President Joko Widodo's approval and the same is true for the design selection.

Kang Emil, as he is known, was also one of the judges for the IKN design competition, assessing that capital cities are always built based on the perspective and desire of a president and this has happened since Soekarno served as the First President of the Republic of Indonesia.

"So Jakarta today, Bung Karno's taste. There is no need to ask why Istiqlal looks like that, Monas is like that, because that was the taste of the leaders of his time," he said.

Regarding the transfer plan and the decisions that have been stipulated in the IKN Law, according to Ridwan Kamil, it must be accepted by all parties properly.

He hopes that after the IKN Law is enacted, the next priority is to discuss the fate of DKI Jakarta in the future.

"Because we have officially decided to move the capital city of Indonesia. What should be asked is precisely Jakarta after leaving, so what. The title has never been discussed," said Ridwan Kamil.
