Attorney General Raises Garuda Indonesia Case To Investigation

JAKARTA - Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin stated that his party has upgraded the status of the alleged corruption case at PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) to the stage of general investigation.

"Today, we (the Attorney General's Office, ed.) have raised it to a general investigation. In the first stage, we are exploring the ATR 72-600 aircraft, and we will not stop there," said Burhanuddin at a press conference at the Kartika Adhyaksa building, Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, January 19.

Burhanuddin stated that the AGO will continue to actively develop cases of alleged corruption at PT Garuda Indonesia, including examining procurement, contracts, loans, and so on.

“Starting from ATR, Bombardier, Airbus, Boeing, and Rolls Royce, we will develop. We will finish it," he said.

The AGO will coordinate with the KPK intensively. This coordination is because there are several cases that have been completed at the KPK related to corruption cases at PT Garuda Indonesia.

Therefore, he said, coordinating with the KPK will facilitate the steps of investigators in the Special Crimes of the Attorney General's Office because the evidence and construction of evidence may already be in the KPK.

"We will always coordinate," he said.

Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) the Attorney General's Office, Febrie Adriansyah, revealed that this case resulted in considerable losses to the state.

"For example, for the procurement of leases, the indications (losses, ed.) are up to Rp. 3.6 trillion, so that the perspective of investigators at the Attorney General's Office is at the same time trying to find out how the losses that occurred at PT Garuda Indonesia will be recovered," he said.

It should be noted that the loss at PT Garuda Indonesia occurred when ES served as president director. Febrie said ES has been processed by the KPK and is now serving his sentence. However, there are losses that still occur at PT Garuda Indonesia.

Because of that, said Febrie, the Attorney General ordered his party to conduct an investigation to clearly see who was responsible beyond what was determined by the KPK and how they could try to recover the loss.

"Right now, our investigation is still concentrated on ATR and Bombardier," said Febrie.
