BANJARMASIN - The Profession and Security Division (Propam) of the South Kalimantan Police is investigating the death of a suspected dealer with the initials S (60) during his arrest by the Banjar Police Narcotics Investigation Unit.

"The report from the family through their lawyer has been received by Propam and is still being investigated," said Head of Public Relations of the South Kalimantan Police, Kombes Mochamad Rifa'i, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 18.

He ensured that the personnel who were involved in the arrests were summoned for questioning by the Paminal Subbid.

"So every complaint or report from the public, we will definitely follow up, including this case, so that the situation is clear," he said.

If the results of the examination result in a violation of standard operating procedures (SOP), the personnel will be subject to sanctions according to the rules of both discipline and the Police code of ethics.

Regarding the chronology of the arrests, Rifa'i explained that it took place on December 29, 2021 at the house of the alleged dealer in Pemangkih Baru Village, Tatah Makmur District, Banjar Regency.

"So at that time the man who had become the target of the operation fought back with sharp weapons. However, for a definite chronology, the results of the Propam examination will be both to the personnel and the family," he explained.

According to Rifa'i, the perpetrator who died was also on the wanted list (DPO) at the Central Banjarmasin Polsekta, the Banjarmasin Police in the narcotics case.

Previously, on Monday, January 17, relatives of the deceased reported to the Propam Division of the South Kalimantan Police because they suspected that the police had taken inappropriate actions during an arrest that resulted in his death.

The family did not accept that S died after the arrest and was suspected of receiving violent and inhumane treatment from the Banjar Police Narcotics Investigation Unit personnel.
