JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the DPR RI PKS Fraction, Netty Prasetiyani, encouraged the government to immediately make a Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (PRT).

Netty explained that this law needs to be made because there are many problems now faced by domestic workers. Starting from working in inappropriate situations, long working hours, arbitrary employer treatment, to exploitation that leads to modern slavery.

"Of course, this state recognition must be followed up by protecting domestic workers who are very vulnerable to discrimination and violence, both physically and psychologically," said Netty to reporters, Monday, January 17. "Domestic workers also have to get social security when they are sick and when they have problems such as during the pandemic," he continued.

According to the West Java legislator, the state has an obligation to carry out the constitutional mandate that all citizens have the right to get a job and a decent living. In pursuing this decent living, said Netty, every job also has the right to be protected by the state, without exception for domestic workers.

"There is a need for the PPRT Bill to be immediately enacted as a DPR RI initiative bill because it has been fought for since 2004 or 18 years ago," he said.

Netty emphasized that the PKS faction in the DPR is committed to encouraging the immediate completion of the discussion of the PPRT Bill into a law.

"Intensive communication must be carried out with the leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the leaders of factions, and the legislative body so that this bill gets broad support," said Netty.
