Government Extends PPKM Outside Java And Bali

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the government had again extended the implementation of the Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) outside Java and Bali until January 31, 2022.

"The extension will be carried out for the next 14 days from January 18 to January 31, 2022," Airlangga said in a virtual press conference quoted by Antara, Sunday, January 16.

The number of districts and cities implementing PPKM level 1 or the loosest level increased from 227 to 238 districts and cities, PPKM level 2 decreased from 148 to 138, PPKM level 3 remained 10, and no more districts and cities implemented PPKM level 4 .

The public is asked to continue to comply with health protocols considering that the spread of COVID-19, especially the new Omicron variant, still needs to be watched out for.

Currently, the government is also preparing the Red and White vaccine and other domestically produced vaccines to increase the supply of COVID-19 vaccination which is expected to be used starting in the second semester of 2022.

Airlangga said that President Jokowi also approved the addition of Moto GP spectators from 63,000 to 100 thousand. At the same time vaccination at the Motor GP event site in Mandalika has achieved a high first dose vaccination rate.

"In Central Lombok as many as 84 percent of the general public and 74 percent of the elderly have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination. For this region the government targets to add booster vaccines for 76,718 people," said Airlangga.

Meanwhile, in the city of Mataram, the first dose of COVID-19 vaccination has reached more than 100 percent because vaccinations are also carried out for people from outside the city.

"In Mataram, as many as 61 percent of the elderly have received the first dose of vaccination and the government plans to provide 158 doses of the COVID-19 booster vaccine," he said.
