SAMPIT - The actions of two suspected motorcycle thieves in East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan, were exposed after members of the Buru Sergap Team disguised themselves as potential buyers of the stolen motorcycle.

"One person was arrested in Sampit, while we arrested another person in Seruyan Regency. We are still investigating this case because it turns out that they have acted several times," said East Kotawaringin Police Chief AKBP Sarpani, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 13.

The two suspects are M and MN who live in Sampit. The two took action on Thursday, January 6 at around 04.00 WIB at Jalan Jenderal Sudirman km 13, Pasir Putih Village, Mentawa Baru District, Ketapang.

At that time M was about to leave to deliver a job application letter to an oil palm plantation company. He went to be escorted by MN using MN's motorbike.

While crossing the scene, M asked to stop near a house. Turns out he saw a motorbike parked beside the house. He then picked up and pushed the motorbike to the side of the road.

Perpetrator M broke the motorcycle's ignition using a T key, but apparently it couldn't be turned on. He then unplugged the socket so the motorcycle could be started and taken away.

The motorcycle was brought home and partially colored so as not to be easily recognizable. M then ordered MN to sell the stolen motorcycle to Sampit.

The automatic motorcycle, which is offered at a low price of around Rp. 2 million, has raised suspicions. Members of the Buru Sergap Team then pretended to be potential buyers.

After meeting with MN at a repair shop in Baamang Barat Village, MN did not move and could only surrender when the police arrested him on Monday, January 10. Development was carried out and the police later arrested M at a place in Seruyan Regency.

"After being interrogated, it turned out that previously the two of them were suspected of stealing motorbikes in several locations. That's why we are continuing to investigate, including tracing who bought the stolen motorbikes," said Sarpani.

The two suspects admitted that they had previously stolen motorbikes at four locations in Sampit, namely Jalan Sawit Raya, Pasir Putih Village, Bumi Raya Street, Baamang Barat Village, Pelita Barat Street, Mentawa Baru Ketapang District, and Jalan Gajah Mada behind the gas station on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman.

The two suspects are targeting automatic duck motorbikes because they are easy to steal and sell. Apart from Sampit, the stolen motorbikes were sold to remote areas in neighboring districts such as Tumbang Manggu, Katingan Regency.

Both of them were charged with Article 363 paragraph (1) to 4 of the Criminal Code with a penalty of seven years in prison.
