Street Race In Ancol Is Ready To Be Held, But Sorry No Prizes Have Been Prepared

JAKARTA - The Traffic Directorate of Polda Metro Jaya is ready to hold a street racing practice with the "street race" community in Ancol, North Jakarta, Sunday, January 16.

"The concept is to practice with the community, so we don't prepare prizes," said Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Sambodo Purnomo Yogo when confirmed, Wednesday, January 12, quoted from Antara.

The plan for the joint practice is to use a "drag race" format with a 500-meter track and 300 meters for braking.

Sambodo said the target of this activity was to form a forum for street racers to race in controlled situations with increased safety aspects.

"The main goal is that we strive so that events like this can eliminate and minimize the implementation of illegal racing on the road. We will accommodate them in one place by increasing the safety factor," he said.

Previously, the Polda Metro Jaya and the Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) agreed to hold a street racing in Ancol in order to facilitate racing hobbyists so as not to get involved in illegal racing.

"We agree that Ancol is one of the options or it will be used as a place to accommodate young people in channeling their racing hobbies and will start on January 15, 2021," said IMI Chairman Bambang Soesatyo.

Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet) hopes that this activity can be a place for street race fans to share their hobbies and not be involved in illegal racing events that endanger themselves and others.

"Hopefully with this activity, the level of racing that disturbs the community will no longer exist because the route has been prepared in Ancol," he said

The Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General of Police Fadil Imran, said the police would intervene to oversee the safety aspects of the race.

"Later, Ancol will prepare the circuit, and IMI will prepare a coach, by prioritizing the safety aspect. So, no longer racing using only flip-flops, but already using complete racing shoes, helmets, and jackets like in MotoGP, so that safety becomes the priority. main," said Fadil
