JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning regarding the potential for heavy rain that could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in most provinces in Indonesia on Wednesday.

As reported by Antara, the BMKG weather forecast information shows that heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds are likely to occur in 22 of 34 provinces in Indonesia including Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Lampung, DKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, and East Java.

Heavy rains accompanied by lightning and strong winds are also predicted to cover the provinces of Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Maluku, Gorontalo, Papua, and West Papua.

According to the BMKG, the potential for rain cloud growth in parts of Indonesia is increasing due to cyclonic circulation and areas of convergence/confluence (meeting winds).

Cyclonic circulation is observed in the Indian Ocean south of West Java, forming a convergence area that extends across the Indian Ocean south of Banten.

The convergence area was also observed extending from Lampung to Central Java, the Java Sea, and central and southern Papua. In addition, there are confluence areas in the Flores Sea, Banda Sea, and Arafuru Sea.

These conditions, according to the BMKG, increase the potential for rain cloud growth around the cyclonic circulation area and along the convergence or confluence area.
