Nearly 100 Thousand Children Are Still Abandoned, Why Should You Adopt A Spirit Doll?

JAKARTA - Head of the Supervision, Monitoring and Evaluation Division of the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) Jasra Putra regrets that the foster parent program for neglected children is less popular than adopting spirit dolls.

"It seems that this government program is not popular in the community. So there are people who compare and deplore the phenomenon of being a parent of a spirit doll with the need for a list of surrogate parents in this country," said Jasra through a press release received in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 11.

According to him, the government noted that in 2020 there were 67,368 data on neglected children in Indonesia and it continues to grow along with cases of abandoned or neglected babies.

In addition, there are also children who suddenly lost their parents during the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of which reached 30,766 children.

According to him, apart from the death of their parents as a result of the disaster, children can be neglected due to various family problems or involved in legal problems.

"Learning from several natural disasters and pandemic disasters, children who suddenly lose their parents, it means that they need to get a replacement family immediately. Likewise, children who lose their parents due to divorce, parents in conflict with the law, children in criminal period, children in foster care institutions or similar institutions where children are cared for outside the family," he said.

Jasra said these neglected children need the presence of their parents in a harmonious family.

"They need a presence, which is like a parent for them so that they can get full attention in their growth and development. Because children who are separated from their families are believed to be able to develop well, if their substitute caregiver implements a family system," he said.
