Minister Bahlil's Response, Gerindra: The 2024 Presidential Election Delayed What's The Way Of The Constitution?

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party, Habiburokhman, responded to the statement by the Minister of Investment/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia who said that businessmen hoped that the 2024 presidential election would be postponed.

According to him, there are no statutory regulations or the mandate of the 1945 Constitution which states that the election can be postponed. Habiburokhman was surprised that Bahlil could make that statement.

"Yes, it is clear that it is a clear law. If it is postponed, what will the constitution look like?" said Habiburokhman at the DPR building, Tuesday, January 11.

In fact, Bahlil's statement was considered by Habiburokhman to be legitimate as an aspiration. However, said the member of Commission III of the DPR, it is important to remember that the postponement of the presidential election is not in accordance with the applicable constitution.

"Aspirations are welcome, conveyed. This is a democratic country. I just don't understand where it might come from, because our constitution clearly stipulates, there is no term for withdrawal, elections are held every five years," he said.

Previously, Bahlil said that the average business actor hoped that the 2024 presidential election would be postponed. The consideration is related to the national economic recovery due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"If we check in the business world, on average they really think how the democratic process is, in the context of the transition of leadership, if there is room for consideration for the process to be pushed back, that is much better," said Bahlil in the release of the Political Indicator survey. "Why, because they have just finished being battered with health issues. This is a new business world, just about to go up, suddenly want to be overwritten with political issues. So that's the result of my discussion with them," he continued.
