PADANG - A total of 27 students at SDN 29 Gunung Sarik, Kuranji District, Padang, West Sumatra experienced food poisoning after eating grilled meatball snacks sold by traders outside the school.

"The students experienced nausea and vomiting after eating grilled meatballs and were immediately rushed to the Rasidin Padang Regional General Hospital," said Head of the Padang City Education and Culture Office Habibul Fuadi as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, January 11.

According to him, initially the teaching and learning process ran normally as usual after the full face-to-face learning began on January 10, 2022.

"But suddenly some children from high grades experienced nausea and vomiting, followed by students from other classes," he said.

Initially, the school tried to contact the local Puskesmas, but because many Puskesmas officers had gone to the field to vaccinate against COVID-19, it was recommended that they be taken to the Rasidin Regional Hospital.

"Finally, all those who experienced nausea and vomiting were rushed to Rasidin Padang Hospital, arriving at the hospital, some were immediately given an IV," he said.

He mentioned that a total of 29 people who were poisoned and rushed to the Rasidin Hospital consisted of 27 students, one parent and one younger brother of the student.

"Currently, as many as 24 people being treated at the Rasidin Hospital have been allowed to go home and the rest are still in the process of being treated," he said.

Habibul asked the school to educate students to be more selective in choosing healthy snacks.

"Actually, during this pandemic, students are advised to bring lunch from home because it is more secure," he said.

"But if you really want to snack, then choose healthy and clean food," he said.

He conveyed that the school could not prohibit people from selling outside the school.

"But it needs to be emphasized to continue educating students how to choose healthy snacks to prevent the same case from happening again," he said.
