Omicron Found Again In Jakarta, Deputy Governor Riza: We Ask Residents To Stay Home

JAKARTA - The case of COVID-19 variant B.1.1.529 or Omicron was found again in the capital city. Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, urged residents to stay at home as much as possible.

"We ask the residents of Jakarta to remain careful. The best place is to stay at home, there is no need to leave the house, especially for people who are over 60 years old and children under 9 years old," Riza told reporters, Monday, January 10.

Riza said the Omicron variant, which has now spread through local transmission, spreads faster than the Delta variant. Therefore, he appealed to residents to continue to adhere to health protocols.

Because, if COVID-19 cases are found again in an area and end up in a cluster, the government will impose a regional quarantine or micro-lockdown.

"Later, if there is a new spread, of course there will be policies that are set according to the rules, including local lockdowns in certain places," he said.

Based on the records as of Sunday, January 9, there have been 407 cases of Omicron in DKI. The majority or as many as 350 cases of Omicron are foreign travelers and 57 cases are local transmissions.

Recently, two cases of Omicor were found, which are Menteng and Cempaka Putih residents. The two of them had just returned from overseas. They had time to quarantine in hotels and apartments before being isolated at Wisma Athletes.

One resident in the Krukut Village, Tamansari, West Jakarta, has been confirmed to have COVID-19 and is an Omicron suspect. After contact tracing, there were 35 other residents who were also positive for COVID-19. Finally, 4 RTs in Krukut were subjected to a micro-lockdown.
