JEMBER - The Jember Police Team, East Java, named a mother with the initials IR (27) as a suspect after molesting her 6-year-old biological child to death at her home in Jamintoro Village, Jember Regency.

"His biological mother has been named a suspect and an examination report (BAP) has been carried out as a suspect," said Jember Police Satreskrim Head of Women and Children Protection Iptu Dyah Vitasari when confirmed at the Jember Police, quoted by Antara, Friday, January 7.

According to him, the suspect admitted that he repeatedly hit his son on the head, legs and hands with a blunt object, causing bruises on several parts of his body.

"The victim's head was hit with a dipper, then his feet and hands were beaten with a broom repeatedly until there were bruises. That was acknowledged by the suspect," he said.

He added that the repeated beatings caused the victim to have a fever, vomiting, and shortness of breath until he was taken to a midwife, then died.

"The suspect was charged with Article 76C junto Article 80 paragraph (3) of Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning Amendments to Law No. 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection and or Article 5a junto of Article 44 Paragraph (3) of Law No. 23 of 2004 concerning Elimination of Domestic Violence," he said.

"The biological mother who abused her child to death is threatened with 15 years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp. 3 billion," he said.

The victim's body was autopsied at the hospital because there were bruises on several parts of his body, so there were suspicions that the death was unnatural.

The autopsy showed that there were 4 points of bruising on the head and bleeding in the brain so that the child experienced nausea and vomiting and died.

Some of the suspect's neighbors often heard the victim crying in the morning and at night, suspected of being beaten by her biological mother because she often had bruises on the victim's body.

In fact, the victim's brother reportedly also died with several bruises on his body in 2016. However, the incident was not reported to the local police.
