Kazakhstan Is In A State Of Emergency Until The Curfew Is Enforced, The Indonesian Embassy In Nur-Sultan Continues To Monitor The Condition Of Indonesian Citizens

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Embassy in Kazakhstan continues to monitor Indonesian citizens in the country, following the emergency status imposed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev regarding large-scale protests in the country. The local government imposed a curfew.

The Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan and the Republic of Tajikistan, Fadjroel Rachman, explained that his party maintains communication with 141 Indonesian citizens in Kazakhstan and three Indonesian citizens in Tajikistan.

"Now there is coordination with all cities where the highest number of Indonesian citizens are in Nur-Sultan, so there are already coordinators, and of course, we are prepared, from good conditions to if something happens that we don't want", he said via video statement sent to journalists, Friday, January 7th.

He said all the Indonesian citizens had joined in one group on the short message application, which also included representatives of the Indonesian Embassy to facilitate communication. "We always remind what to do and we ask that if there is important information, please share it with fellow Indonesian citizens and the Indonesian Embassy so that we can measure the risks from the start and also mitigate the risks that may occur", he said.

Fadjroel emphasized the commitment of the Indonesian Embassy in Nur-Sultan to serve the needs of Indonesian citizens in Kazakhstan.

Fadjroel explained that currently the situation of tension is still centered in the city of Almaty and its surroundings, the area where 16 Indonesian citizens are located. So far, he said, Indonesian citizens in the region and throughout Kazakhstan are in good condition.

Although tensions were centered on one point, he said that coordination with the central government had been carried out. President Joko Widodo ordered that people's safety be ensured and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi asked the Indonesian Embassy in Nur-Sultan to open a hotline 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
