JEPARA - As many as 60 farmers who are members of the Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan) Margo Utomo, Tulakan Village, Jepara Regency, Central Java, dismantled a bridge from coconut trunks that became access for illegal miners of excavated rock C in the Gelis River today.

This action is an effort by farmers to enforce the rules and agreements issued by Forkopimda in 2020.

"After two years of illegal rock mining not operating because it was closed by the Jepara Regency Government, suddenly 10 days ago there was rock mining activity in the Gelis River using heavy equipment," said Gapoktan Chairman Margo Utomo Tulakan Masruhan in Jepara, Antara, Friday, January 7 .

In fact, he said, illegal mining of rocks endangers the condition of the surrounding environment, including agricultural irrigation canals and water resources.

Around 200 hectares of rice fields depend on technical irrigation for irrigation which is feared to be affected by the illegal rock mining activities.

The field coordinator (korlap) for the demolition of the bridge, Rahmanto added, Gapoktan Margo Utomo had actually reported the presence of illegal rock miners to the Tulakan Village Head and the Tulakan Village Consultative Body (BPD).

However, the response of the village head (kades) was not optimal, so the farmers agreed to dismantle the bridge by informing the Donorojo Police. He hopes that the authorities will take firm action against illegal miners excavating C in the Gelis River by bringing order and taking firm action according to the law.
