JAKARTA - The First Lady of the United States (US) Melania Trump said that she touched on the Republican Party Convention. He called on the US people to uphold unity and understanding between people in this difficult time. Because the US is facing a double crisis: the COVID-19 pandemic and an economic crisis.

Launching CNN, President Donald Trump's wife also expressed her concern for the families of the nearly 180,000 people who have died from the new coronavirus. He thanked the vanguard who have handled more than 5.7 million cases of COVID-19 in the US.

"I acknowledge the fact that since March, our lives have changed drastically. The invisible enemy of COVID-19 is engulfing our beautiful country and affecting all of us," said Melania Trump.

"My deepest sympathies go to all those who have lost loved ones and my prayers are with those who are sick or suffering. I know a lot of people are anxious and some feel helpless. I want you to know that you are not alone," added Melania.

He said the Trump administration continues to fight until a COVID-19 treatment or vaccine is available to everyone. "Donald is not going to rest until he does all he can to look after everyone affected by this terrible pandemic," he said.

Criticizing the Democratic Party Convention

Meanwhile many speakers at the convention - including Trump's children - argued that Joe Biden would destroy American ideals and values and lead the US into an apocalyptic future. But Melania said she didn't want to use the precious time she had allocated to attack the other party.

"As you heard tonight, I don't want to use this precious time to attack the other party," Melania Trump said alluding to the Democratic National Convention. According to him, such talks would only further divide the country.

"Because as we saw last week, such talks will only divide the country further. I am here because we need my husband to be our president and commander in chief for another four years," he said.

Republicans hope the first lady's popularity will help overcome one of the biggest challenges Trump faced in November. This is because Trump's female voters are known to have fallen dramatically.

In a poll of women voters conducted over the summer, Trump was well below 20 points with Joe Biden. The poll predicts that he will lose female voters by a historic margin in November.

The heightened disagreement over its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic has also placed bigger obstacles in gaining the hearts of voters. Trump's call for the 'suburban housewife' doesn't seem to help her gain any advantage.
