Rare One In Two Million Births, Twins Aylin And Alfredo Born In Different Years

JAKARTA - Twins Aylin Trujillo and Alfredo Trujillo may someday have a different story, when people talk about their unique and rare birth.

They will definitely have stories to tell about their birthdays, which fall on different days, months and years.

"It was shocking," Fatima Madrigal, 28, the mother of the twins told Reuters in an interview from Greenfield, California, United States as quoted January 6.

The birth of the twins was actually only a minute apart, but the process took place at the turn of the year. Fatima gave birth to Alfredo Antonio Trujillo in Salinas, California on December 31, 2021 at 23:45 local time.

Fifteen minutes later, when the clock struck midnight and the hospital staff welcomed the new year, Aylin was born into the world. To be unique, because the birth of the two was not deliberately planned.

The twins were born two weeks early, as Fatima Madrigal's due date is January 16. Aylin weighs 5 pounds, 14 ounces (2.66 kg), while older brother Alfredo weighs 6 pounds, 1 ounce.

Madrigal said husband Robert Trujillo and their three other children, aged 11, 3 and 1, were very happy with the new arrivals, their twins.

"I was a bit surprised, because twins weren't in my family, or in my partner's family. So we were really surprised that we were blessed with two babies, and it was a boy and a girl, so we were complete," she said emotionally.

Despite being born on different hours, dates, days, months and years, for now the twins will celebrate their birthdays on the same day, according to Madrigal.

"I'll explain it to them as best I can. When they're older, if they want to celebrate their birthday, like, a different year, it's up to them, but now they're kids and they're together. Me, they're going to celebrate their birthday together. ," he said.

Meanwhile, according to Natividad Medical Center, where the twins were born, there are about 120,000 twin births in the United States each year. However, twins with different birth dates are less common. Some estimate the odds of twins being born in different years as one in 2 million, the hospital said.
