Only Takes 1x 24 Hours, East Jakarta Police Arrest Perpetrators Of Viral Phone Snatches On Social Media

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Metro Police arrested a suspect in the robbery of a mobile phone belonging to a MOR victim (16) on Jalan Trikora II RW 09 Gedong Village, Pasar Rebo District, East Jakarta.

East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Budi Sartono said the perpetrator with the initials AJ (27) was arrested at his father-in-law's residence in Cijantung, East Jakarta.

"This is because it was recorded by CCTV, so it went viral yesterday and after the person concerned made a report at the police station within 1 x 24 hours, we were able to arrest the suspect on behalf of AJ," said Budi Sartono in Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, January 5.

According to Budi, the mugging took place on January 2, 2022, when the victim was with his partner. The perpetrator who was riding a motorcycle suddenly approached the victim and took his cellphone.

"The victim and his partner were walking, suspect AJ, who was driving a motorbike with plate B 3238 TFF, went back and forth twice and then approached MOR and took MOR's cellphone," said Budi.

In the robbery incident, said Budi, the victim suffered bruises and scratches as a result of trying to defend his cell phone. "As a result of the perpetrator's actions, MOR's palm was slightly injured because he kept his cellphone," said Budi.

The police also confiscated evidence in the form of a motorcycle, a helmet belonging to the perpetrator, a jacket, a pair of pants and a cellphone belonging to the victim.

As a result of his actions, the suspect was charged with the criminal act of theft with violence as referred to in Article 365 of the Criminal Code with a threat of nine years in prison.
