KEPRI - A total of 12,514 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in Riau Province have expired and cannot be used anymore because their period of use expired in December 2021.
Acting Head of the Riau Health Office, Masrul Kasmy, said the expired vaccine was a vaccine that was recapitulated from eight districts in Riau Province.
"Management of vaccination stocks in three locations, namely at the provincial pharmacy installation, district pharmacy installation and health center. Then recap, then the number of 12,514 has expired," said Masrul in Pekanbaru, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, January 4.
Several districts with expired COVID-19 vaccines are Kampar, Indragiri Hilir, Indragiri Hulu, Siak, Rokan Hulu, and Rokan Hilir. Masrul said that the vaccines obtained from other provinces were excessive and were directed by the center to be continued to Riau Province, but not all of them were absorbed.
"Indeed, some of the vaccines that we have received will soon expire. This is the pattern that the center is doing to achieve the vaccine target," said Masrul.
The 12,514 vaccines are of the Astrazeneca and Moderna types, out of around 1.4 million vaccines available from provincial, district and health center pharmaceutical installations in Riau.
"Regarding the extermination mechanism, we will close it and make a report first," said Masrul.
Currently, COVID-19 vaccination in Riau Province has almost reached 80 percent, or exceeds the target of 70 percent.
