NTT Residents Asked To Be Alert Entering The Peak Of The Rainy Season

KUPANG - The El Tari Kupang Meteorological Station, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region has now entered the peak of the rainy season which could have an impact on bad weather in the archipelago-based province.

"At the peak of this rainy season, the growth of convective clouds (cumulonimbus clouds) increases so that it can have an impact on bad weather," said Head of the El Tari Kupang Meteorological Station Agung Sudiono Abadi when confirmed in Kupang, reported by Antara, Tuesday, January 4.

He said this was related to the latest developments in the weather in the NTT region.

He explained that the growth of convective clouds in NTT is increasing because it is coupled with weather disturbances in the form of equatorial rossby waves.

These convective clouds, he said, could have an impact on bad weather, in the form of heavy rain accompanied by lightning, strong winds, hurricane, and even hail.

"Therefore, residents in NTT need to remain vigilant in facing the potential threat of bad weather at the peak of this rainy season," he said.

Agung appealed to residents to be aware of potential disasters, such as floods and landslides, as well as fallen trees or damage to other facilities in public places.

People, he said, do not need to leave their homes or drive vehicles when heavy rains occur if there is no urgent need.

"In addition, securing important goods or documents to be safe from the threat of disaster," he said.
