Anies Optimistic That Piped Drinking Water Coverage Reaches 100 Percent By 2030

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan is optimistic that the coverage of piped drinking water supply will be 100 percent served to the people of the capital city before 2030.

"Hopefully we can serve 100 percent, God willing, before 2030," said Anies Baswedan, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 3.

To meet this target, the Central Government and DKI Jakarta Provincial Government signed a memorandum of understanding on synergy and support for the implementation of the Drinking Water Supply System (SPAM).

The agreement was signed by Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Minister of PUPR M Basuki Hadimuljono, and Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan, witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan.

The memorandum of agreement includes details of the program, timeframe, as well as the appropriate financing scheme through the SPAM project synergy.

Currently, the coverage of piped drinking water services in Jakarta is only able to meet 64 percent, and supply 20,725 liters per second of water for 908,324 customer connections.

As a result, people who do not have access to piped drinking water use groundwater continuously so that it becomes one of the causes of land subsidence.

Later, the DKI Jakarta BUMD, namely PAM Jaya, must be able to provide an additional supply of 11,150 liters per second and additional distribution infrastructure covering 35 percent of the new service area for piping to approximately one million additional new customers by 2030.

On the other hand, Anies Baswedan has issued a policy of limiting and prohibiting groundwater extraction in areas that have been served by the PAM Jaya pipeline network as stated in Governor Regulation Number 93 of 2021 concerning Groundwater Free Zoning.

The former Minister of Education and Culture added that the PUPR Ministry also invested Rp 2.1 trillion for downstream SPAM infrastructure projects.

The project is for the absorption of bulk drinking water in the first year of the Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM Project and the Karian-Serpong Regional SPAM and project facilitation related to the construction of the Buaran III Water Treatment Plant.

The PUPR Ministry asked the DKI Provincial Government to immediately prepare the necessary criteria to be able to access infrastructure development support.

The PUPR Ministry built three Regional SPAMs through the Government and Business Entity Cooperation (PPP) scheme to support drinking water services in DKI Jakarta, namely the Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM and Karian-Serpong Regional SPAM which are currently running, as well as the Djuanda/Jatiluhur II Regional SPAM. still in the preparation stage.
