JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Lestari Moerdijat assessed that face-to-face learning (PTM) in several areas must be accompanied by strict application of health protocol discipline (prokes) in all lines of the policy.

He assessed that the implementation of PTM should be used to instill new norms in everyday life to the next generation.

"The Omicron variant, which is considered to have the ability to transmit faster than the Delta variant, must be anticipated with the application of prokes discipline at all lines in the implementation of face-to-face learning," said Lestari Moerdijat in a written statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 3.

He said the evaluation results from a number of parties on the implementation of limited PTM in 2021 must be corrected immediately. Lestari gave an example that the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) found that the implementation of the program in PTM was limited to 2021 which had not been maximized.

According to him, these corrective steps need to be taken because currently it is indicated that the Omicron variant has spread in the country.

"Teachers, students, and officers in the school environment should not be negligent, continue to increase vigilance, and discipline in implementing prokes in the school environment," he said.

Lestari asked the government not to ignore input from a number of parties to improve the PTM implementation mechanism.

He gave the example of the Indonesian Pediatrics Association (IDAI) on Sunday (2/1) suggesting that the implementation of PTM should only be carried out when 100 percent of teachers and school staff have received the COVID-19 vaccine. In addition, children who can enter school are those who have been fully immunized against COVID-19 twice and without comorbidities.

"It is hoped that through the implementation of PTM which always prioritizes health care discipline, this nation can avoid experiencing a 'learning loss' and can be used as a means to instill new norms in the nation's next generation," he said.

Lestari encourages educators to improve their ability to understand and instill new norms in students so that this nation can gradually face various changes that occur in the future.
