JAKARTA - PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono is committed to building three Regional Drinking Water Supply Systems (SPAM) as a solution to prevent Jakarta from sinking due to community use of groundwater. The PUPR Minister said that the PUPR Ministry is committed to building three Regional SPAMs through the PPP scheme to support coverage fulfillment drinking water services in the DKI Jakarta area, namely the Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM and Karian-Serpong Regional SPAM which are currently running, as well as the Ir. H. Djuanda/Jatiluhur II is still in the preparation stage. "With the construction of the 3 (three) Regional SPAMs, it is expected to increase the drinking water supply capacity of DKI Jakarta Province by 9,254 liters per second which can be utilized to increase service coverage by 30 percent," said Minister Basuki in a written statement received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Monday, January 3.

The Minister of PUPR emphasized that the certainty of providing drinking water to all levels of society is an obligation to fulfill the basic needs of the community and one solution to prevent Jakarta from sinking. The Ministry of PUPR will also provide downstream infrastructure support to the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government for the absorption of bulk drinking water in the first year of the Jatiluhur I Regional SPAM Project. and the Karian-Serpong Regional SPAM and project facilitation related to the construction of the Buaran III Water Treatment Plant (IPA). For this reason, the Ministry of PUPR hopes that the DKI Provincial Government will immediately prepare the readiness criteria needed to be able to access the infrastructure development support provided so that the Regional SPAM that is built will immediately benefit for the community and the coverage of drinking water services in DKI Jakarta can be fulfilled immediately. The Central Government and the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta are serious about preventing Jakarta from sinking, one of the efforts is through the provision of piped drinking water to To reduce groundwater extraction. This was realized by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) "Synergy and Support for the Implementation of Drinking Water Supply Systems in the Province of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta". The MoU which was signed by Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Minister of PUPR M. Basuki Hadimuljono and Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Rasyid Baswedan was witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan in Jakarta on Monday, January 3.
