The National Police Chief Says The Number Of Crimes Throughout 2021 Will Decrease

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said that during 2021 the number of crimes in Indonesia fell by 53,340 cases or 19.3 percent from 275,903 cases in 2020 to 222,543 cases in 2021.

"In the field of law enforcement, we report that there has been a decline of 19.3 percent or 53,360 cases," said the National Police Chief, quoted by Antara, Friday, December 31.

Regarding the settlement of cases in the field of law enforcement during 2021, General Sigit said there was a decrease in 26,205 cases or 14.5 percent.

However, in terms of the percentage of completion of the number of crimes against the number of incidents reported crimes (clearance rate) increased by 6.1 percent, from 66.7 percent to 69.6 percent.

The most dominant crimes throughout 2021 were conventional crimes as many as 174,043 cases or 79 percent of the total number of crimes. This number decreased when compared to the same data in 2020 as many as 199,725 cases.

Followed by extraordinary transnational crimes, the National Police managed to settle 2,601 cases with a clear clearance of 52 percent.

The National Police Chief mentioned several prominent cases, including money laundry, drug trafficking without a distribution permit (the police have secured Rp531 billion).

Furthermore, cross-border hacking cybercrimes by breaking into electronic systems resulted in a total loss of IDR 127 billion. The perpetrators hacked approximately 70,000 accounts of several international unicorn companies spread across 43 countries.

"We can reveal this in collaboration with the FBI. In the future these things will be our challenges," said Sigit.

Next, the crime with business compromise email mode in two companies in America with a loss of Rp. 84.8 billion.

Regarding the polemic of the ITE Law, because the implementation of the law seems repressive, the Police are trying to reduce polemics and debates over articles that are considered rubber which are considered to limit freedom of expression. The National Police has issued a circular to create awareness of ethical culture in cyberspace.

The National Police has made a Virtual Police application so that the approach that is considered repressive is now more preventive and preemptive. Meanwhile, things that are provocative and contain elements of SARA are reminded.

Regarding drug crimes, there were two prominent cases during 2021, namely the disclosure of 2.5 tons and 1.29 tons of methamphetamine from the Middle East.

There are also crimes related to state assets as many as 4,018 cases. The number of cases also decreased, although not significantly by 4,372 cases.

"We took care of it, saved approximately Rp442 billion from a total of 240 cases," said the National Police Chief.
