Mahfud MD: Violations Of Laws Perpetrated By TNI-Polri Personnel Since The First Time It's Ordinary

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said that violations of the law committed by TNI and Polri elements are common. Mahfud even presupposes that the person is the same as criminals everywhere.

This was conveyed by Mahfud MD in response to the large number of members of the TNI and Polri who were entangled in legal cases and often went viral on social media.

"Violations of the law by TNI-Polri elements have always been common. Just like in society there are criminals, in mosques there are criminals, in churches there are criminals," Mahfud told reporters in Jakarta, Thursday, December 30.

However, Mahfud asked the public not to regard all members of the police and TNI soldiers as criminals.

"Surely there are those who are naughty, the police rape, the army disposes of corpses. Since the past there have also been those who have been like that. In the community there have also been," said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK).

He emphasized that rogue law enforcement officers will certainly be punished. This, continued Mahfud, became the focus of the TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa and impressed him.

"The current TNI commander (makes, ed) I am very impressed. In his view, the law must be enforced because if the law is enforced it cannot be disputed. This is the rule," he said.

Mahfud said this kind of step would be different if law enforcement officials only enforced temporary policies. If only policies are applied, what happens every time there is a change in leadership or the rules are changed, then everything that has been determined previously called Mahfud will also change.

"If the policy will change people, the policy will be different. It's chaotic. The law is enforced," said Mahfud.

"I talked to the TNI Commander. We met again, talked again. 'Sir, the law, sir?' 'ready, law', as he said it," he concluded.
