In The Aftermath Of The Case Of The GPI Tulangbawang Church Congregation, LBH Asks The Local Government To Evaluate So That The Case Does Not Recur

BANDARLAMPUNG - The Bandarlampung Legal Aid Institute (LBH) asked the local government to ensure the safety of religious worship. This request is so that the incident that happened to the GPI Church Congregation of Tulangbawang Regency, Lampung does not happen again.

"We encourage the regional government to evaluate, resolve and ensure that religious people carry out their worship safely, especially at the GPI Tulangbawang Church," said Director of LBH Bandarlampung Sumaindra Jarwadi, Antara, Wednesday, December 29.

Sumaindra also asked the police to be able to maintain security and take firm action against acts that could disturb religious people in worship.

"We deeply regret the incident experienced by the GPI church congregation in Tulangbawang which was disturbed by a group of people, so they could not hold a solemn Christmas celebration," he said.

In fact, he said again, everyone who performs worship has been guaranteed by the state to feel comfortable in carrying out worship as stated in Article 29 paragraph 2 of the 1945 Constitution.

"The state guarantees the independence of each resident to embrace their own religion and to worship according to their religion and belief," he said, citing Article 29 of the 1945 Constitution as well.

Then, the regulation regarding the right to freedom of religion in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights or UDHR (Universal Declaration of Human Rights) is regulated in Article 18.

"In addition, it is also stated in Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights Article 22 paragraph (1) which states that everyone is free to embrace their own religion and to worship according to their religion and beliefs," he said again.
