110 Intersection Points In Medan Closed On New Year's Eve, This Is The Location

MEDAN - A total of 110 intersection points in Medan City will be closed during New Year's Eve. The closure will be carried out starting Friday, December 31 at 19.00 WIB until January 1, 2022, at 06.00 WIB.

The head of the Medan City Transportation Service, Iswar Lubis, explained that the closing step was taken as an effort to reduce community mobilization and the spread of COVID-19 in Medan City.

"In principle, the Medan City Government and the TNI/Polri fully support the community in celebrating the new year, but there should not be an increase in cases of the Coronavirus", said Iswar, Wednesday, December 29.

He explained that the 110 points that were closed were spread throughout the city of Medan.

"If it's only around the center of the city, people have already left the city, there will be a crowd", said Iswar.

Therefore, his party hopes that people can celebrate New Year's Eve with their families at home.

"We minimize the spread, please celebrate at home still, not convoys or fireworks. We apologize, this is for the good of all of us with the hope of sincerely praying that everything in 2022 will be better", he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Medan Police Traffic, AKBP Sonny Siregar, reminded the public not to convoy and have fireworks parties during New Year's Eve.

"We urge you to avoid convoys, crowds, fireworks parties so that there will be no increase in COVID-19 and disturbances to the public order. We hope for cooperation from the community so that they can pass New Year's Eve smoothly", said AKBP Sonny.

AKBP Sonny emphasized that the police will take firm action against people who are reckless and penetrate the points of closing the flow of traffic.

"We will take firm action, we will order to turn back. We have also anticipated alternative routes that may be taken", he said.
