Head Of Jakarta Transportation Agency: Tram Rail Findings Will Not Hurt MRT Phase 2A Construction

JAKARTA - Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub), Syafrin Liputo, confirmed that the discovery of a tramway from the Jakarta era still called Batavia will not hinder the work of the Glodok-Kota MRT Phase 2A construction project.

"The construction of the Phase 2A MRT will continue. Regarding the findings, the BUMD PT MRT and the Department of Culture will follow up," said Syafrin, at the Jakarta City Hall, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 28.

Syafrin did not elaborate on the follow-up process for the discovery of the tram tracks, including where they would be moved, because the authority lies with PT MRT Jakarta and the DKI Jakarta Culture Service. "That's the level of implementation at the MRT and the Culture Service," he said.

Previously, Twitter user @jalur5_ tweeted on December 23, 2021 regarding the discovery of the classic heritage tram line. In his tweet, the tram tracks were found during the construction of the Glodok-Kota MRT Jakarta Phase 2A.

The photo he displayed shows the tram tracks still intact behind the newly demolished concrete. The owner of the account wrote that this tram line is part of the history of the Djakarta Passenger Transportation General Company (Perum PPD).
