East Kalimantan Residents Are Advised To Beware Of Heavy Rain And Thunder On 29-30 December

BALIKPAPAN - Residents in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) are advised to be aware of heavy rains and thunderstorms which are predicted to occur on Wednesday-Thursday, December 29-30, such as floods, landslides, fallen trees, and other impacts.

"We have conveyed an early warning in the form of vigilance against the impact of the weather to regencies/cities in East Kalimantan as an anticipation measure," said Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman (SAMS) Sepinggan Balikpapan Meteorological Station Class I forecaster, Diyan Novrida, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 28.

A number of areas where heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast include North Penajam Paser (PPU) Districts, including Penajam, Babulu, Sepaku and Waru sub-districts.

The details are that in Penajam sub-district heavy rains are predicted to occur on Wednesday, at 11.00 WITA. Meanwhile, thunderstorms occurred at 14.00 WITA.

Then on the same day at 11.00 WITA, heavy rains are predicted in Babulu, Sepaku, and Waru sub-districts.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Emergency and Logistics Division of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of PPU Regency, Nurlaila, immediately followed up on the early warning via a number of social media and WA Groups, as an anticipatory measure for public awareness.

"The early warning from the BMKG delivered by the Class I Meteorological Station SAMS Sepinggan was immediately distributed via social media, including to a number of WA groups. From here, group members are expected to share it with other groups so that all parties are aware of each other," said Nurlaila.

In addition to PPU Regency, said Diyan Novrida, heavy rain is also forecasted in Balikpapan City on Wednesday, at 11.00 WITA, covering the Districts of Balikpapan City, East Balikpapan, West Balikpapan, South Balikpapan, Central Balikpapan and North Balikpapan.

Then on the same day and hour heavy rain and thunderstorms have the potential to occur in Paser Regency, which includes Tana Grogot, Batu Sopang, Muara Komam, Batu Engau, Kuaro, Long Ikis, Long Kali, Paser Belengkong, and Tanjung Harapan Districts.

Furthermore, at 14.00 WITA, thunderstorms are predicted to occur in Tanah Grogot, Batu Engau, Kuaro, Long Ikis, Muara Samu and Paser Belengkong sub-districts.
