Landslide, Cianjur South Connecting Road Again Cuts

CIANJUR - The road connecting the southern region of Cianjur, West Java, was again cut off due to a 50-meter high cliff in the Cadas Hideung area, Pagelaran District, due to a landslide. Traffic flow was again cut off due to the length and height of the landslide material that blocked the road.

The secretary of the Cianjur BPBD, Rudi Labis, said that the second landslide had continued to move so that it closed most of the runway connecting Cianjur with the southern region.

"Until night, the landslides continued to move, thus closing most of the runway for provincial roads connecting sub-districts in the southern region. We are still waiting for heavy equipment to quickly remove landslide material," he said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 28.

His party continues to appeal to residents, especially road users, to be extra careful and alert when crossing a number of landslide-prone points, especially on the main road connecting sub-districts in the southern region of Cianjur, along with high rainfall in most areas of Cianjur.

"Currently, the flow of vehicles from Sukanagara to Sindangbarang has been cut off, precisely on Jalan Raya Pagelaran, so that drivers are temporarily diverted through the Cibitung-Cipari alternative route with a considerable distance, because the landslide evacuation process takes quite a long time," he said.

Even today, his party is still alerting about a thousand Disaster Resilient Volunteers (Retana) in each sub-district and village, to monitor and immediately evacuate residents when they see signs of an impending natural disaster.

"We will coordinate with related agencies in the province to immediately take maximum care of cliffs that are prone to landslides when it rains heavily and can again cut off traffic access. Retana is also still on standby at the location," he said.
