Ministry Of Health's Advice: Increase Vigilance By Reducing Year-End Mobility Due To Omicron's Local Transmission

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Vaccination of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, appealed to the entire community to increase vigilance by reducing mobility at the end of 2021 due to the discovery of the local transmission of the Omicron variant.

“With the discovery of this local transmission case, the government again reminds the public to reduce mobility, especially during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Avoid crowds and always wear a mask," said Nadia in a Productive Dialogue, Tuesday, Main entitled "Starting the New Year with New Habits" via online in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Nadia said the total number of Omicron cases that had been found in Indonesia had now reached 47.

With details, one case of local transmission was found in a 37-year-old man who had no history of traveling from abroad or having contact with foreign travelers.

Meanwhile, the 46 cases that were first discovered were imported cases or cases that came from abroad.

Nadia explained, the imported cases were immediately identified so that quarantine could be carried out to prevent their spread outside as well as tracing their close contacts.

However, the finding of one case of local transmission indicates that infection has occurred among members of the community in one area, even though they have no history of traveling abroad.

According to Nadia, as a follow-up to the Omicron case, the government carried out an evacuation process for the patient for isolation at the Sulianti Saroso Hospital, North Jakarta.

“The Health Service has coordinated with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and places of patient travel history. Like restaurants in SCBD, tracing is also to parties who are in close contact with the person concerned," she said.

Nadia also emphasized that the government will continue to monitor the transmission of COVID-19 at the provincial and district or city levels.

Therefore, she asked all local governments to be able to cooperate with all parties to continue to monitor conditions. Especially if there is a potential for clusters to occur due to Omicron.

"This is to speed up the investigation and assessment of whether there is an association with the new variant of Omicron or not," said Nadia.
