Case Of Workers Breaking Doors And Relaxing In The Chair Of The Governor Of Banten, IPW Asks Police To Apply Restorative Justice

JAKARTA - Chairman of Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) Sugeng Teguh Santoso said the case of workers occupying the Banten Governor's office needed a restorative justice approach.

“The legal process for the Banten Governor's report needs to be responded to proportionally and professionally. Even if it is necessary to apply 'restorative justice' in this case, if it meets the requirements for it," said Sugeng in a written statement in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, December 287.

Sugeng said IPW believes that demonstrations are the right of citizens to express their aspirations in public. Including the workers in Banten who fight for their rights because this is a necessity in democracy.

However, he said, democratic rights were limited by respect for the laws governing public order and the rights of other parties.

"Therefore, it is not justified to violate the law in the name of democracy in the form of demonstrations," he said.

Sugeng said IPW also highlighted the attitude of the Banten Provincial Government officials, where there were no representative officials to accept the workers' demonstration.

"Because the attitude of neglecting to listen to the aspirations of workers in the absence of a governor or regional secretary who accepts, can also be a trigger for the unrassed race," said Sugeng.

Previously, several unscrupulous workers broke into the Banten Governor's office during a demonstration demanding a revision of the provincial minimum wage, last Wednesday, December 22.

Due to the actions of several unscrupulous workers, the Governor of Banten through his attorney Asep Abdullah Busro on Friday, December 24, reported the case to the Banten Police.

After receiving the report, the Banten Police moved quickly by securing the perpetrators, namely AP (46), SH (33), SR (22), SWP (20), OS (28) and MHF (25).

They are accused of Article 160 of the Criminal Code regarding sedition, Article 170 of the Criminal Code regarding the destruction of goods together and Article 207 of the Criminal Code regarding intentionally publicly insulting a power that exists in Indonesia.
