6 Tons Of Medical Waste Found Scattered At The BKMM Mataram Building, Starting From Condoms, Injections And Infusions

MATARAM - The Mataram City Police found medical waste piled up and scattered around the area of the former Community Eye Health Center (BKMM) building in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). After weighing, the weight of medical waste reaches 6 tons.

"Yesterday, when we counted it in the field, it weighed up to 6 tons," said Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Mataram City Police, Kompol Kadek Adi Budi Astawa in Mataram, Antara, Monday, December 27.

However, Kadek Adi is still waiting for a competent party to measure further

the amount of weight, type, and use of medical waste found.

"Of course the competence in this case is from the health office and the environment office," he said.

Investigators will also schedule requests for information from the two agencies for further investigation. Including information from the NTB Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK), NTB BKMM, and the State 2 Mataram Extraordinary School (SLB) as the parties now inhabiting the building.

"For the first agenda, today what we called from the health department, both from the city of Mataram and the province of NTB," he said.

Furthermore, Kadek Adi revealed that the handling of this issue has been included in the police investigation regarding allegations of criminal environmental pollution for the management of hazardous and toxic waste (B3).

On Wednesday, December 22, Mataram Police found medical waste piled up and scattered in three rooms of the former NTB BKMM Building, Cakranegara, Mataram City.

From the variety of medical waste, plastic packages containing drugs were found that had piled up in the room. Syringes, condoms, infusions, and medical materials in liquid form were scattered on the front page.

This condition is thought to have occurred since the NTB BKMM, which is the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the NTB Health Service, moved in 2018 to the old NTB Provincial General Hospital (RSUP) building on Jalan Pejanggik, Mataram City.

The NTB Health Office and Mataram City reportedly also filled a number of rooms in the former NTB BKMM Building. The former NTB BKMM building has now become a supporting facility for teaching and learning for students at the State 2 Mataram Special School (SLB). Of the dozens of existing rooms, seven of them have been functioned by SLB Negeri 2 Mataram.
