3 Times Found Not Wearing Masks In Jakarta, Fined Rp1 Million

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan issued Governor Regulation Number 79 of 2020 concerning the Implementation of Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocols as Efforts to Prevent and Control COVID-19.

This Pergub regulates the enactment of progressive sanctions for violating the COVID-19 prevention protocol. Under this regulation, people who are caught not wearing masks and who were previously sanctioned can receive multiple sanctions up to a fine of Rp1 million.

"This Pergub is officially in effect," said DKI Legal Bureau Head Yayan Yuhanah when confirmed, Friday, August 21.

In Article 5, it is stated that every person who does not wear a mask and receives the first sanction, is obliged to pay an administrative fine of up to Rp. 250 thousand or social work cleaning public facilities by wearing a vest for 60 minutes.

Then, every person who commits an offense that does not wear a mask repeatedly is fined Rp. 500 thousand or social work for 120 minutes.

"Repeated violations are subject to social work cleaning public facilities by wearing a vest for 180 minutes or an administrative fine of up to Rp. 750,000," Anies was quoted as saying in Pergub Number 79 of 2020.

Meanwhile, violations of not wearing a mask are repeated 3 times and subsequently receive a fine of IDR 1 million or social work for 240 minutes or 4 hours.

"The imposition of sanctions is carried out by Satpol PP, accompanied by elements of the Police and / or TNI," wrote Anies.

Anies continued, the imposition of progressive fines for offenders who repeatedly do not wear masks can be seen from the database owned by Satpol PP.

"Satpol PP records the names, addresses and identification numbers of the offenders to be entered into the database," he said.

It is known, since the PSBB until the transitional PSBB period, the DKI Provincial Government has obliged everyone to wear a mask that covers their nose, mouth and chin when they are outside the house, interact with other people whose health status is unknown, and use motorized vehicles.

To enforce this rule, the Satpol PP DKI carries out an Orderly Mask (Tibmas) operation to catch and impose sanctions on everyone who does not wear a mask.
