Entering The Christmas Holiday, The Number Of Passengers At Papua Sentani Airport Increases 21 Percent

PAPUA - The Sentani Airport Authority, Jayapura Regency, Papua noted an increase in the number of passengers since the beginning of the Christmas holiday reaching 21 percent compared to the same period in 2020.

Public Relations of Sentani Airport, Surya Eka, said that the increase in the number of passengers from Friday, December 17 to Thursday, December 23 through Sentani Airport, was recorded at 44,420 people. Meanwhile, for the same period in 2020, there were 36,798 people.

"It is true that there was an increase in passengers departing from Sentani Airport by an average of 21 percent and the highest occurred last Tuesday as many as 3,972 people," he told Antara, Friday, December 24.

In addition to passengers, Surya said, there was also an increase in the number of cargo sent through Sentani Airport by 2,446,012 kg, an increase of 48 percent compared to the same period in 2020 which was recorded at 2,148,140 kg. To provide a sense of security and comfort, Sentani Airport also opened a command post by involving all stakeholders.

Admittedly, although there was an increase, the airlines serving the route to Sentani Airport did not add to the schedule but optimize the existing aircraft.

"There are no extra flights after the government's decision, there is an optimization of existing aircraft," explained Surya.

There are nine airlines serving to and from Sentani airport and four missionary flights, namely MAF, AMA, Tariku and Yajasi.
