KH Said Aqil: NU Does Not Use The Term Kafir, It Can Hurt Non-Muslim Indonesian Citizens

BANDAR LAMPUNG - Following the results of the National Conference and the Citangkolo Consul in February 2019, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) emphasized that it would never use the term infidel for non-Muslim citizens.

This was conveyed by the General Chair of PBNU KH Said Aqil Siroj when giving an accountability report at the Raden Intan State Islamic University Lampung, Thursday, December 23.

"In the religious field, NU does not use the term infidel for Indonesian citizens who do not embrace Islam," said KH Said Aqil.

KH Said and all NU believe that this call can hurt people who do not embrace Islam. And NU doesn't want that to happen.

"NU is of the view that the mention of infidels can hurt non-Muslims in Indonesia," he stressed.

In addition, other National Conference decisions are environmental issues. NU assesses the problem of the amount of plastic waste where Indonesia is the second largest country that contributes plastic waste after China.

In the economic field, NU states that the multi-level marketing (MLM) business model is haram. This is true for MLMs with pyramid, sun, or ponzi schemes.

Regarding Islam Nusantara, NU states that Islam Nusantara in a substantial sense is Islam ahlus sunah waljamaah which is practiced, preached, and developed according to the characteristics of society and culture in the archipelago by its preachers.

"In the political field, NU's internal circles do not abstain. NU considers the election to be successful in order to improve the quality of Indonesian democracy," he said.

The LPJ reading session was held behind closed doors. Even so, speakers that emit sound from inside the room can be heard for participants outside the trial location. After Said Aqil's accountability report, a number of plenary participants expressed their views.

Then M Nuh as chairman of the trial concluded that the plenary session agreed that Said Aqil's PBNU accountability report was accepted.
