Omicron Variant Enters Indonesia, Here's Anies' Message For Christmas And New Year's Holidays

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said, currently there are 5 people who have been infected with the Omicron variant of COVID-19. For this reason, the community is expected to improve health protocols.

This was conveyed by Anies while reading the message from the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo while leading the troop deployment in the 2021 Lilin Jaya Operation at Metro Jaya Police, Thursday, December 23.

"In Indonesia, there are currently 5 people who have been identified as infected with the Omicron variant," said Anies.

Thus, Anies appealed to residents not to carry out mobility during the Christmas and New Year holidays. This is because it has the potential to spread the Omicron variant of COVID-19, which is said to have a higher transmission rate than the Delta variant.

Reflecting on the previous Christmas and New Year, Anies continued, the positive number of COVID-19 skyrocketed due to high mobility. Noted, the increase reached 125 percent.

"Reflecting on the experience of the Christmas and New Year period last year, the increase in community mobility led to 125 percent of confirmed cases, namely 6,437 cases per day on November 26 to 14,518 cases on January 30, 2021," said Anies.

For that, the increasing case last year will become a lesson. Thus, the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia can be suppressed and controlled.

"We need to use the spike in COVID-19 last year as a lesson in order to face Christmas and New Year 2022," said Anies.
